Warning Signs of Heroin Addiction

Anyone who has lived with a drug addict will know exactly how hard it is to watch someone they care destroy their lives and negatively impact those around them. For those who aren’t sure if their friend or loved one is truly addicted, the fear of watching that cycle of destruction can lead them to act. However, they will want to be sure before taking any steps, which may leave them wondering what are the signs of a heroin user?
The most obvious sign of any kind of drug abuse is dramatic life changes. This can take the form of a sudden failure in school or work habits, dropping hobbies, sports, or other activities and a lack of interest in personal hygiene and clothing. Another obvious change would be withdrawing from family and friends. This is especially telling if coupled with the suspected addict becoming more secretive.
Other indications that a friend or family member is in need of heroin addiction treatment include an increase in reckless behavior, slurred speech, an increasingly hostile attitude towards those around them, and a lack of desire or motivation for common activities as well as longer term goals. Physical signs include constant sniffling or a runny nose, and needle marks on their arms and legs. Another obvious indicator is possession of drug paraphernalia.
Heroin addiction can lead to serious health problems and even death. Addicts will need to receive treatment from qualified professionals, including medical treatment for detoxification and any side effects of the drug.
