The Garden and Diana’s Grotto

There are some folks who have a remarkable way with nature. Some call them gifted with a green thumb, meaning they can transform anything related to dirt and seeds into works of living art. Indeed, there are times when visiting a garden that one might even have a sense of approaching the mythic. It’s not impossible to imagine scenes from an imaginary past, when nymphs and fauns wandered down forested paths, where the whole world seemed to be speaking in one simultaneous song.
The connection isn’t a new one, and in fact it’s one that’s haunted artists and poets for centuries. When one hears about places as magical as Diana’s Grotto in Ovid’s stories, it’s easy to see why painters in classical times were drawn to nature scenes to depict moments of unearthly beauty.
In her garden, the growth was a reflection of place, as it always is. Garden fountains can certainly add a mythical touch to any outdoor area. Although it’s hard to match her palace, in a cave near the sea where the moss provided the floor for her court, the perfect fountain can start to create the sense that there is something entirely magical happening here.
