Looking for a way to improve your sales process can be hard work. It might be tempting to ask the bosses what they feel is the most important thing for successful sales. They are the ones who pay the bills and some would think that they would know the best way to make the sales. After all some of them started on the sales floor. Not all of them did however and for most of them they have not been in the thick of things for many years. The truth is that sales have changed a lot in the last few years and the internet and other new technologies are continuing to change the face of sales forever.
In a recent study done, the majority of CEOs and C-level management ranked self motivation and discipline as being the most important trait a sales person can possess. After that they mostly said that customer knowledge, natural talent, and product knowledge were the next more important things. While all of these things are good, and can help get sales, they are the old way of sales process. Improvement in these areas can be made using different skills that are necessary for sales in the new age.
Most successful professional salespeople think that there are other traits that are much more important than those. Some of them can be taught and some of them are things the employee has to work on for themselves, no one else can take care of it. The one that almost everyone agrees is the most important trait was not only not listed on the other list, but also is not something that can be taught in employee training no matter how good the course, like natural talent, this is perpetual, eternal good attitude and enthusiasm. When the sales person is enthusiastic about a product they will know everything there is to know about that product, they will know its strengths and weaknesses, the best situations in which to use it and most other facts about it. Enthusiasm and good attitude are also contagious and a customer who is in a bad mood can not only be turned around with such a good attitude, but it pulls on the heart strings and makes people want to buy the product.
