The Academy Awards are one of the most popular honorary events in this country. In addition to celebrating the best efforts of those involved in the entertainment business, the award ceremony itself is intended to be entertaining. It makes great reason then that Steve Martin was one of the hosts for this year’s ceremony. Steve Martin is one of the most respected and loved American comedians and his career has extended decades and evolved from stand up comedy to major motion picture acting and even writing and directing. He is most likely one of the nation’s household names and is certainly known by the hotel guests at some of the area resorts.

Martin was born in August of 1945 in Waco, Texas and was raised in small town in southern California. His first jobs were working for Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm. He performed comedy and magic tricks and eventually landed a job as a writer for the Smith’s Brother’s Comedy Hour. This is frequently considered to be the turning point in his life and was his introduction to becoming well known and successful in the business. Shortly after this he began to be a regular on The Tonight Show.

After Martin gained attention for his stand up, back in the days he was known as the wild and crazy guy, he also performed on various variety shows. Among those was the Sunny and Cher Comedy Hour and the Glen Campbell Good Time Hour. He also began appearing on Saturday Night Live and started to produce his own comedy albums. One of his first break through film appearances was in the movie The Jerk, which gained him much celebrity and earned him other roles. It would be easy to say at this point that the rest is history, though his achievements are too many to list here and fall under many categories. He is well known for his comedy and comedic acting, though he is amazing talented as a writer and director. He is also a musician.
