As we drove to Napa Valley in our rented convertible last weekend, we couldn’t help notice that we picked a gorgeous almost spring like weekend to go wine tasting. There was so much going on in Napa, we didn’t know if we could fit it all in. There were three Wineries hosting special events, events which we wanted to attend. The problem was they were happening all around the same time.

After we checked into one of the better Napa luxury hotels , we decided to throw out any ideas that we could do them all, but at the same time hoped for the best. Our first stop was at the Etude Winery, they were hosting its GBR Estate Red party. It cost us $25.00, but the wine was really worth the fee. The GBR Estate Red taste was deep and delicious, long and lingering with a black fruity start, and a flinty finish. We purchased several bottles and left about an hour after we arrived.

Our next stop was to the Goosecross Cellars who were kicking off spring with their array of white wines. This event only cost us $10.00. Last year, we bought several bottles of their 2007 Orange Muscat white, it was so vibrantly aromatic and fruity that it bursts with a sweet orange blossom, fresh melon, honeysuckle and exotic lychee taste. We found it enticing and it has a most pleasant finish with a kiss of citrus. We found that the 2007 Orange Muscat was sold out! I can’t tell you how disappointed we were. But the owner, Geoff Gorsuch, pulled out his new creation, the 2008 Muscat Canelli and told us we’ll like this wine even better. He was right, the wine was light, sweet, fresh with peach, apricot, orange blossom and the wonder exotic lychee. We bought a whole case this time, and we ended up spending more time there than we expected, so off we went!

Our final stop was to be at the 17th Annual Taste of Yontville, but it was getting to be dinner time, and we’ve barely had anything to eat, except for the snacks provided on our winery tours. So, we decided to forgo the Yontville event and head to our favorite restaurant in Napa, Allegria . It’s a converted bank with the most romantic atmosphere. For an appetizer we picked the Bruschetta Al Pomodoro – so delicious. For our main courses we ordered the Pappardelle Allo Zafferano: fresh homemade Saffron Pasta served with jumbo prawns, wild mushrooms, artichoke hearts, and roasted shrimp bisque, and the Pollo Ripieno: oven roasted breast of chicken stuffed with Fontina Cheese, spinach, wild mushrooms, braised arugula served over garlic mashed potatoes and roasted sweet pepper cream. Did we mention ‘so delicious?’

With most of what we wanted to do under our belts, and having to undo our belts from over-stuffing ourselves, we happily went to bed fully satisfied and replete.
